This narrative is a prehistoric, historic, and contemporary view of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe of Washington State, ending with its final success in achieving recognition by the United States as an Indigenous tribe.  It is, also, the story of the determined men and women who refused to give up their rights to prove their case, despite one hundred- fifty years of struggle.
