Averi Azar '18 is an environmentalist and the Assistant Director of the Master of Environmental Studies graduate degree program at Evergreen. Averi has been at Evergreen for over a decade, first a student and now as a full-time staff member supporting graduate students from recruitment to degree completion.

Averi is a two-time Greener grad, receiving double bachelors degrees in 2015; a Bachelor in Arts focusing in Gothic and Classical Architecture and Literature and a Bachelor in Science focusing in Pacific Northwest Environmental Science. Averi returned to Evergreen for her MES and graduated with her Masters in 2018.

"It is really important that we have thoughtful and compassionate critical thinkers in environmental leadership in order to address the huge need in the environmental sector. I love that my job is to support people in becoming successful environmental leaders".

In Averi's role as Assistant Director she supports graduate enrollment management and the success of current graduate students in the MES program. She works closely with students from the start of their Evergreen journey, meeting with prospective and admitted students for admissions counseling, academic and career advising for current students, and program support and management through commencement. Averi is also the advisor of the Masters of Environmental Studies Association (MESA), a graduate student organization for MES students.

Averi has been working in higher education since 2017 when she worked as a graduate program assistant with MES and learned she loved working with graduate students finding their way. Averi started her current role of Assistant Director in 2020 and has been with the college full-time for 4 years. Her professional interests are graduate enrollment management, indicators of success within graduate studies, and trends in changes within graduate education.

"I love my MES students, they are some of the most thoughtful and compassionate people; they only want to make the world a better place and I love helping them get to do that".
