Animal nutrition is an essential component of animal health in wild populations and aquaculture. The biochemistry of animal diets contributes to optimal developmental success, increased survival, better human nutritional value, and sustainability of feed sources. This core certificate 4-credit offering is focused on the fundamentals of finfish and shellfish nutritional requirements. The first half of the course is centered on the fundamental molecules necessary to sustain marine life, while the second half focuses on the feeding, digestion, and metabolism of the organisms themselves. The class will use primary scientific literature, lecture, discussion, writing, and laboratory experiences.

This class will meet synchronously online for 2.5 hours per week. The course will also feature three in-person laboratories on Sundays. Students should expect additional homework during the week.

This is one of four core courses that comprise the Marine Bioresources Certificate at Evergreen. Courses can be taken in any order.
