About the Student Capstone Fund
Funds are available to provide financial support for students completing their capstone project such as a final research project, creative project, presentation, or performance.
Awards are capped at $350 per person. Students may receive one award per academic year. Students must have a faculty sponsor for their academic work to receive funds.
Funds may be used for capstone materials, but cannot cover equipment that may have a longer "shelf life" after the project ends such as computers, cameras, external hard drives, etc. Funds also will not cover food, class fees, class supplies, study abroad fees, the hiring or payment of other people.
The Student Capstone fund will not fund lodging or travel expenses, students in need of this funding should apply for the Student Travel Fund
Applications for the 24-25 academic year will be posted the end of summer quarter.
Application
Applications are due at 5 pm on Friday of Week 3. We accept applications during Fall, Winter, and Spring quarter and encourage students apply early. Awards will be granted as soon as possible, no later than the end of Week 5 of the given quarter. The Capstone Fund does not award funds during Summer quarter.

Eligibility
Student applicants must be:
- A currently enrolled Evergreen undergraduate or graduate student that has been enrolled at Evergreen for at least 4 credits during the quarter(s) the project is conducted
- Presenting work connected to an academic program, course, or participating in Individual Learning
Capstone criteria:
- Capstone projects can include art projects and exhibitions, scientific research, video and film productions, theatrical productions, student literary magazines, and other projects
- Projects must be carried out in conjunction with an academic program or individual learning contract
- All projects must have at least one faculty sponsor
Resources for Completing Your Culminating Project
Using the Library
Library resources, requests, and purchasing
When possible, students are encouraged to utilize the library for any resources needed to complete their capstone projects, including books, films, and journals.
Students can find books and films that the library owns by searching for them in the library catalog. Materials that the library doesn’t own but can borrow from other libraries will also show up in a catalog search and can be requested.
If you’d like to request that the library purchase a book or film that they don’t already own, you can use the Library Purchase Request Form. Use the ‘Other Notes’ field to mention the item is for a capstone project. Once the item arrives it will automatically be placed on hold for you and you will be notified to pick it up at the library circulation desk.
Equipment and Technology
Borrowing equipment and equipment support
While funds will not cover most electronic equipment with a shelf life, Evergreen has equipment and spaces for student use through Media Services
Media Loan
Media Loan lends and provides instructional support for the use of audio, video, photography and presentation equipment to students for their academic work.
Electronic Media
Evergreen's media labs have professional level equipment so you can get hands-on experience in animation, photography, audio, film and video production.
Photoland
Photoland is Evergreen’s center for photography related activities, supporting photography courses and programs while also providing photographic services to other areas of the college and the public.
Working with Human Subjects and Animals
Human, animal use or collection, use of hazardous substances
Ethical and safe research is important. Projects involving human subjects, animal use or collection, use of hazardous substances or radiation, or other activities that could affect public health or safety, will need appropriate permission from the Human Subject’s Review committee, or appropriate safety personnel.
