Enija Valenzuela (she/her), a Master of Environmental Studies student, conducted thesis research titled “Investigating Variation in Harbor Porpoise (Phocoena phocoena vomerina) Foraging Behavior Across Varying Group Types in Burrows Pass, Fidalgo Island, WA.”

Utilizing drone footage collected by Pacific Mammal Research (PacMam), she analyzed harbor porpoise foraging behavior in Burrows Pass by classifying specific behaviors observed in video recordings collected between November 2024 and May 2025. Her work examined how foraging behavior varied among individuals, pairs, mother–calf pairs, and small groups through behavioral observation and statistical analysis.
