Alex Safiq is a marine ecologist and conservation psychology researcher whose interdisciplinary work bridges ecology, ecosystem-based management, and conservation psychology. Their research explores nature-based spiritual values and how these influence conservation behavior, place attachment, and ecological stewardship. They also investigate the human dimensions of ecosystem-based fisheries management, with a particular focus on endangered species recovery, and examine the intersections of environmental justice with outdoor recreation and access. They hold a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution from Rutgers University (2019) and a BS in Environmental Science and Astronomy from Union College (2014). They have taught undergraduate and graduate courses across the country, including Human Dimensions of Wildlife, Vertebrate Zoology with Lab, and Wildlife Ecology and Conservation.
