This experiential course invites students into the restorative and transformative practices of Jin Shin Jyutsu, Qigong, and Continuum Movement—three intermodal somatic traditions that cultivate inner harmony, embodied awareness, and resilience. Drawing from Eastern healing arts and contemporary mind-body research, we will explore how stillness, breath, and intentional movement can support physical, emotional, and mental well-being to cultivate immunity and embodied presence. This course draws from the science and social science of habit change, integrating insights from neuroscience, somatic psychology, and cultural practices to explore how individuals and communities cultivate resilience through embodied habits.
Students will engage in:
- Daily self-care routines using Jin Shin Jyutsu energy flows
- Qigong sequences to harmonize breath, movement, and intention
- Continuum Movement explorations to awaken fluidity, presence, and deep listening in the body
- Reflective journaling and expressive arts to deepen self-inquiry and integrate somatic insights
- Group dialogue and community practice to explore the relationship between stillness, strength, and collective well-being
Seminar readings will explore how these practices are currently being integrated in educational school systems and integrative health settings for both chronic and acute conditions. Student work will include weekly somatic integration journals and a final reflective essay describing theory with practice and potential community applications.
