Professional practitioners of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) rely on the advanced desktop GIS skills available in the ArcGIS Pro software (made by Esri, Inc).  Students will learn how ArcGIS Pro serves many needs of an organization for creating geographic databases, conducting many types of spatial analysis, and producing formal maps and charts. Hands-on lab exercises will show students how to exploit the powers of ArcGIS Pro software for managing a wide variety of spatial and non-spatial data resources - from the US Census Bureau, GPS satellites, online atlases, the National Map, and other public GIS data repositories. Other labs will cover advanced techniques for overlay analyses, charting and statistical summaries, and spatial-temporal data mining.

ArcGIS Pro software also enables professionals to create and refine data layers and publish new layers into ArcGIS Online for partners to use in their own web maps and story maps. Students will learn some of the common techniques for ingesting raster data sources for making interactive 3D viewscapes - such as the National Landuse/LandCover Database (NLCD), and Digital Elevation Models (DEM).   

This course is the third required course of the GIS Certification sequence and satisfies the prerequisites for students who wish to take the final GIS course that leads to the Evergreen GIS Certificate.

This course is offered in hybrid mode: students can take this course in-person at Evergreen's Computer Application Lab (CAL), or from a home computer over Zoom. To take this course successfully over Zoom, students will need to have a sufficiently powerful computer – with Microsoft Windows operating system - and the ability to install the Esri ArcGIS Pro software. A license for ArcGIS Pro will be provided along with installation support from Faculty.  Computer specifications for ArcGIS Pro software can be found here:
