This intensive two-week second session summer course prepares students to support Nisqually Canoe Journey 2026. Four evening sessions introduce students to Canoe Journey protocols and history, Indigenous food sovereignty, native foods, and relational ethics. The course includes 20 hours of service learning with Nisqually Canoe Journey partners, followed by two evening sessions of student-led reflection and presentations. Students will document their learning with an ePortfolio. This class centers relational learning, respect, and humility as students connect theory to practice through experiential learning and service.

A background check is required.

This course complements the first session course, Fish Wars: Tribal Canoe Journeys, as well as the full session course, Internships: Tribal Canoe Journeys.

All students will be expected to participate in 4 class sessions during July 27-July 30 from 5:30pm-9:20 pm, and an a 5th class session on August 6th. Class sessions take place on campus from 5:30pm to 9:20pm. Additionally, students will schedule 20 hours of independent in-service learning at the Medicine Creek Canoe Journey between July 31st to August 5th. All required group meetings will be listed in Schedule Evergreen
