Planning Next Steps
Work with your faculty to design your capstone to highlight your knowledge and skills in the disciplines and areas you want to pursue after college – this is especially important if you plan to continue your studies in graduate school.
Design your Academic Statement for future readers, like potential employers and graduate school admissions committees.
Get support describing your education, reviewing your resume and applications, and go over your options with Academic and Career Advising.
Applying for Jobs
Ask your faculty or advisors to review your application materials so you can get feedback before submitting your application.
Faculty are great professional and character references since they know your work the best and can speak to your skills, achievements, and collaborative nature.
Applying to Graduate School
Different MA, MFA, and PhD programs have different application deadlines and standardized testing requirements, so make sure to check the guidelines for the programs you’re interested in.
Speak to your faculty about letters of recommendation and request them at least a month in advance so they have time to write something that really highlights your achievements.
Faculty may be able to advise you on understanding and completing the prerequisites for graduate studies, the application process, and application materials.
In general, MFA graduate programs require:
- Application
- Artist statement
- Letter of intent (cover letter)
- Official college transcript
- Resume or CV
- Samples of your work, with descriptions
- Standardized test scores
- 2-3 letters of recommendation
