About Languages and Linguistics
You can study language along with the history, literature, and culture of a particular region or country either in stand-alone language courses or embedded in full-time programs along with other areas of study. Languages regularly offered in these courses and programs include:
- Irish Gaelic
- Ancient Greek and Latin
- and occasionally German and Arabic
We offer advanced opportunities for language study in Spanish and French and support students who learned language in family/community as well as classroom settings.
In addition, evening language courses are regularly offered in Spanish, French, Chinese, and Japanese (with occasional offerings in other languages) as well as linguistics, which includes topics such as language structure, linguistic meaning, and language in relation to culture and society.
Many interdisciplinary programs also include options for study abroad. Past programs have travelled to:
- Mainland China
