OLYMPIA, Wash. — Evergreen alum Megan Cotton has been named Director of Tribal Relations for the Washington State Attorney General’s Office, bringing more than two decades of experience in tribal relations, transportation and state government to the role.

Attorney General Nick Brown announced Cotton’s appointment Aug. 14. She currently serves as Senior Policy Advisor for Transportation in Gov. Bob Ferguson’s office, where she coordinates policy involving the Washington State Department of Transportation, Washington State Patrol, Department of Licensing and Washington Traffic Safety Commission, among other agencies. Cotton will step into her new role at the AGO on September 16.

Before joining the Governor’s Office, Cotton spent much of her career at the Washington State Department of Transportation, including serving as Tribal and Federal Relations Director. Her work included negotiating intergovernmental agreements, building relationships with tribal governments and working on major transportation, infrastructure and fish passage projects across the state.

Cotton is citizen of the Snoqualmie Tribe and a two-time graduate of The Evergreen State College, earning a bachelor’s degree in Native American Studies and a Master of Public Administration.

In her new role, Cotton will help lead the Attorney General’s Office's government-to-government relationships with tribal nations and provide guidance on issues affecting tribes and Native communities across Washington.
