Greener Foundations: Especially for First-Years
Greener Foundations, Evergreen’s introductory student success course, provides all our first-time, first-year students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in college.
We know that college is a different experience than high school. We know that Evergreen’s freedom of choice, team-taught classes, and narrative evaluations give students a unique college experience. We’re proud of our differences, and ready to help you navigate the Evergreen experience.
Greener Foundations is a holistic first-year student success course that is built into selected full-time academic programs. Faculty and staff collaborate to bring study skills, health and wellness education, advising, and more into the classroom. All of this knowledge is linked to each student’s program of study.
You’ll spend a couple of hours a week in fall and winter quarters getting to know your fellow students, learning about Evergreen and its history, drawing up your academic plans, getting to know faculty and advisors, visiting various offices and resources on campus, exploring your education, getting out into the community, and having fun!
The knowledge and skills you learn in Greener Foundations will be supplemented by experiences around the institution. Our staff in housing, student activities, and other departments also have curricula specifically designed for first-year student success.
Who It Is For
Greener Foundations is specifically designed for first-time, first-year students (sometimes referred to as “frosh” or “freshmen.”) If you’re coming directly from high school, or after a gap year or two, Greener Foundations is for you! Greener Foundations is also designed to support students who completed some college-level course work while in high school through Running Start or College in the High School.
If you feel there is a reason why you should be able to opt-out of Greener Foundations, please contact the Academic Deans (email@example.com) for information.
