Weaving on a Coast Salish Loom

This course is designed to cover the basics of the weaving process on a two-bar Coast Salish inspired loom, from the creation of spun and dyed yarns to the completion of a finished shawl.  Students will understand the personal and cultural significance of weaving a shawl that could be gifted away.  Students will learn about different types of weave structures.  As well as develop an appreciation for the art and craft of weaving.  Through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and weaving a complete shawl, the possibility of weaving as metaphor and weaving as artful experience will come alive in the classroom. This is one of three courses that can be taken in any order which comprise the Fiber Arts Certificate at Evergreen.
