In this hands-on course, students will explore the creative world of DIY screen printing with a focus on wearable and fabric-based art. Using techniques such as rubylith masking, photocopied film positives, and screen printing with fabric inks, students will design and print custom graphics on t-shirts and patches. The course emphasizes experimentation, personal expression, and small-scale production, making it ideal for artists, designers, and makers interested in independent fashion, zine aesthetics, and creative entrepreneurship. No prior experience is required. All skill levels are welcome in this collaborative, in-person class held on Evergreen’s Olympia campus. Studio access and guided instruction will support both beginners and advanced students.

Academic Details
This course supports pathways in independent art and design, including careers in screen printing, illustration, textile and surface design, fashion and streetwear production, zine and DIY publishing, and creative entrepreneurship. It also provides foundational skills for further study in studio arts, graphic design, and visual communication.
Required $50 studio lab fee
Students should budget $80 - $150 for materials, including blank t-shirts, fabric patches, and printing supplies.
Basic materials will be available in the studio and charged to your student account.Screens, squeegees, and fabric inks will be provided for in-class use.Students may choose to bring or purchase additional garments or fabric items for printing.
