In this alternative process printmaking course, students will explore a variety of non-traditional printmaking techniques. These methods offer unique ways to create prints, often involving experimental approaches and unconventional materials. Students will have the freedom to experiment and develop their own creative designs for each technical process.
In this course, students will learn monotype, smart plate lithography, pressure printing, and gel-plate printing. With each project, students will learn how to prepare and use different substrates, apply various printing methods, and manipulate materials to achieve desired effects. Emphasis will be placed on innovation and personal expression, encouraging students to explore these alternative processes.
Additionally, students will undertake a research project to delve deeper into one or more alternative processes, present and participate in regular design reviews, and expand their critical observational skills and visual literacy through a final group critique and print trade.
The studio lab will be available for work outside of class sessions during the week. Assignment work may require an additional 6-8 hours.
