Linear algebra is the branch of mathematics dealing with systems of linear equations and their connections to matrices, which we study as representations of linear transformations; these ideas are extremely useful in many other disciplines, including computer science, physics, and economics. In this course, we'll begin with systems of linear equations, which will lead us to focus on properties of matrices, including determinants and eigenvalues/eigenvectors, and linear transformations and vector spaces more generally.

Class meetings (Tue/Thu 3-5pm) will consist of lectures and collaborative workshops. There will be weekly homework assignments along with midterm and final exams.

Students interested in also taking differential equations and/or multivariable & vector calculus should consider the 12-credit program Mathematical Methods; the schedule for this course is compatible with the schedule for that program.
