Ed NoiseCat

Building on skills taught in previous courses, students will carve a large block of alder. Instructor Ed NoiseCat is a master of Salish carving, and will be teaching traditional carving techniques and contemporary design. Students will learn how to identify wood that is good for carving, hone their skills in various carving techniques, and design and carve a large sculpture or functional item. Students must have taken a course in the carving studio, the woodshop, or have equivalent experience. Students will draft their own designs, learn how to transfer skills from smaller scale carvings to larger projects, and to gain the building blocks to be able to approach their artistic vision successfully.
