This is the first course in the Cybersecurity Foundations Certificate. The Cybersecurity Foundations certificate will introduce you to the core concepts and practices of the field of cybersecurity. The goal of this first course is to provide a foundation in cybersecurity by exploring critical topics in the field such as:

  • The security mindset
  • Practical security
  • Ethical and legal issues
  • Secure software development
  • Authentication
  • Applied cryptography
  • Top 10 vulnerabilities

It is recommended that before beginning this certificate program, students should have prior programming experience and knowledge of basic Linux command line.

Although this course can be taken as a stand-alone offering, it is also designed to integrate with (and be a companion to) the program Data Structures and Algorithms (12 credits, fall quarter).
