This offering delivers all of its instruction online via zoom.

The course is third quarter of a yearlong sequence and is designed to increase linguistic skills through film and literature study.  All classes are conducted entirely in French. Course objectives focus on increasing communicative skills in discussions with native speakers and developing cultural knowledge through a cinematic lens.  Students will learn about the art of French films and its filmmakers through viewing multiple genres of award winning classic French films.  Students will build upon existing skills and sharpen oral and aural proficiency through guided film viewing, subtitle analysis, discussion and writing. Additionally they will increase literary knowledge through study of a novel paired with its companion film. Class activities engage students in small group work, individual and collaborative projects and lively debates with native speakers.

To successfully participate in this course, students will need a reliable Internet connection to access oral class interactive activities via synchronous work.  Additional asynchronous connections are necessary for course materials linked to the textbook, plus access to Canvas, Zoom, Discord, Google Classroom and YouTube.
