This course examines film through the lens of gender studies. Both film studies and gender studies will be covered at an introductory level, with additional support and opportunities provided to students with previous experience. We will focus primarily on feature-length narrative films by women and trans directors.

During class, we will practice analysis skills by close reading scenes together. We will also seminar on articles by authors such as Laura Mulvey, bell hooks, Jack Halberstam, and Eve Oishi. Students will spend time outside of class viewing films on their own and engaging in threaded discussions on Canvas.

This course will be taught fully online. To successfully participate, students will need a computer (including a microphone and preferably a camera) and internet access.
