Journaling normally involves pen and paper, however in this course students will work with animation, using both editing and compositing techniques along with traditional methods such as drawing, cut out, and collage, to explore the concept of creating moving image journaled works based on one's surroundings and experiences. Students are required to have access to a camera and audio recording device (this can be a phone) as well as a computer, tablet, or phone for editing. Lectures will include instructor-guided creative methods as well as viewing of animated documentary films and works which examine everyday life. Students will be required to keep a journal and participate in discussions on animated assignments and course readings.
