What You'll Learn
The certificate provides a structured, practice-based introduction to researching grant opportunities, writing effective grant proposals, and managing grant awards within nonprofit and public interest organizations. Designed as a sequential program, the certificate builds core skills over three quarters, moving from grant research to proposal development and post award grant management.
Students will learn how to identify and assess grant opportunities, develop prospect research lists, and create grants calendars that align with organizational capacity and funding priorities. They’ll apply this research by completing a full grant proposal, including organizational context, issue research, project work plan, budget, timeline, and evaluation strategy. The certificate concludes with an introduction to grant management, where students develop skills in grant reporting, funder communication, ethical practices, and post‑award project coordination.
Upon completion, students will be able to independently research grant opportunities, prepare complete grant proposals using standard application formats, and support grant‑funded projects through effective management and communication practices. Graduates gain practical, job‑ready skills applicable to entry‑level roles in grant writing, nonprofit development, donor relations, and grants management, as well as valuable preparation for continued study or leadership within mission‑driven organizations.

This certificate consists of 12 undergraduate credits. Some courses must be taken in sequence: Grant Research must be completed before Introduction to Grants Management can be taken.
