Basic Needs Donation Guidelines

Items and acceptable condition to donate

In order to maintain the quality and cleanliness of the Basic Needs Center and resources
that students have access to, we have put together general Basic Needs Donation Guidelines.

In general, all items must be clean and usable before donation; otherwise, items will not be taken. We only take in items that are “like new” to minimize waste, rotting food, or items we would have to otherwise dispose of.

Clothing

Apparel should be lightly used, without tears, free of pet hair, stainless and scent free.

Housewares

Small appliances should be wiped down before donating. No food residue or dust. No Knifes or sharp objects.

Food

Food donations should be checked for an acceptable expiration date and without tears, holes and unused. No spirits or wine accepted.

We do not accept opened food containers that have been halfway used. For example, halfway used bag of flour, opened box of cereal, halfway gallon of milk used, or partially used perishable items. Partially used food containers that are open cannot be verified safe for distribution.

Fresh Produce

During growing season- we start to take donations of fresh produce grown in personal/community gardens. Fresh produce donations need to be donated directly during operation hours and cleaned to ensure freshness for distribution.

Large Items

Because of limited space, we are unable to take large items of any kind.

Dropping-Off Donations

The Basic Needs Center accepts donations without appointment year-round during operating hours. We also have a drop-box outside the Basic Needs Center for donations 24/7. If you have a large quantity of items to donate, please contact us in advance.
