Advancement Team Values

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

For the Evergreen of today and tomorrow, we commit to acknowledging, addressing, and mitigating the impacts of systemic racism and oppression within our community, and within the fields of higher education and philanthropy.

Cultivating diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is at the heart of our work. Advancement celebrates and upholds diversity of experience, perspective, and identity as critical to our team's culture. Together, our team strives to create and maintain a working environment that is inclusive, equitable and welcoming. We strive to be a model for equity and inclusion, and as such, this statement is only a part of Advancement’s efforts.

Racial Equity & Social Justice

We demonstrate our commitment to racial equity and social justice through the practice of cultural humility, embracing differences, continuous learning and unlearning, meaningful dialogue, and ethical storytelling.
Vision - Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are at the heart of our work. We commit to enhancing access, participation, and empowerment of historically marginalized communities.
Action - We address systems of injustice within our immediate community, and within the fields of philanthropy and higher education. We lean into difficult conversations and decisions. We participate in Equity and Social Justice trainings at the individual, divisional, and institutional levels.

Humanity

Through embracing and encouraging authenticity, we generate a team culture filled with kindness, trust, compassion, integrity, and respect for each other as whole beings.
Vision - We treat each other with grace while honoring our human imperfections and vulnerabilities.
Action - We own our mistakes, apologize, and make amends. We support one another by making room for feelings in our work.

Teamwork

The unique power, leadership, and strengths of individuals form the cornerstone of our collaboration, amplifying the impact of our work.
Vision - Success of our teamwork is based on the respect and appreciation of other people’s voices.
Action - We strive constantly to be better listeners, make space for all voices, and honor one another's strengths and boundaries.

Community

We recognize and maintain a strong Evergreen community through deepening relationships between students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff, and friends of the institution.
Vision - We strive to strengthen our community both on and off campus.
Action - We listen to and uplift voices and perspectives from within our community. We host and participate in events, communications, and engagements that proactively foster connections. We cultivate relationships with alumni and friends to build support for Evergreen.

Student Success

We center our work around supporting students, strive to remove barriers, foster opportunities, and empower tomorrow’s leaders.
Vision - We provide opportunities for student involvement and collaboration.
Action - We practice ethical storytelling: we uplift student voices, obtain consent to share other’s stories, and protect sensitive information. We plan and organize our work to empower the student experience.

Learning Organization

We encourage and support opportunities that broaden our perspectives, fostering personal growth, professional development, and lifelong learning.
Vision - We are committed to continuous professional growth and invite others into these opportunities.
Action - We challenge or question the status quo and welcome new ideas. We allow space for learning and growth at all stages and refrain from judging others for what they have yet to learn.
