Inspired by the 1970s Ciné-club movements, students in this course will engage in the tradition of watching films after discussing the information we gathered about them. By reviving this practice, World Cinema Club understands film as a tool for research and community-building, sharing our discoveries before enjoying a screening together.

This course is introductory to film criticism and film analysis. Our learning goals including refining how we see and consume media by developing skills, conducting research, and expressing our ideas to help others engage and comment. World Cinema Club aspires to expand our curiosity to reveal the context, history, and complexities of film production and storytelling while helping us engage with film through other techniques beyond our opinions.

Selecting films and building a creative exhibition proposal for specific publics will be our first step into a critical curatorial practice which will link with another effort to develop screenings and lectures related to Climate Change at Evergreen.
