This course centers on the key issues and legislative activity within the Washington State Legislature. Designed to equip students with the skills to understand, analyze, and advocate for policy change, it offers a hands-on approach to learning the legislative process. Students will deepen their knowledge of how the Legislature operates while developing practical skills such as identifying pressing policy issues, tracking bills, writing persuasive op-eds, and communicating effectively with lawmakers. Coursework includes weekly writing assignments and an in-class presentation on a bill introduced in the upcoming legislative session. By the end of the term, each student will have developed expertise on a bill of their choice and be able to clearly explain its significance and implications to their peers.
