Sublime Color: Landscape Painting

This course is an introduction to painting through an investigation of the landscape and color theory and the sublime. It will provide a foundation for painting with gouache on paper through synchronous Zoom sessions, with a strong focus on color theory. Emphasis will be placed on developing technical skills through observational painting, while researching art historically significant works to develop a personal vision.No prerequisites are required, though a background in the basics of drawing is recommended.

​Our work will be conducted remotely using both Canvas and Zoom. We will meet for 6 hours per week over Zoom and spent roughly 5-6 hours on asynchronous coursework/independent work time per week. Homework will mostly be studentsworking on their own (with flexibility for restrictions) outdoors in nature, plein air style.
