This course introduces students to theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches in the social sciences. Through analyzing texts on class, race and gender, students will acquire knowledge of core issues in the social sciences as well as understandings of the qualitative and quantitative research methods employed to produce knowledge. Students will develop research skills through collaborative critical engagement with readings, a series of short expository and reflective writing assignments, and completion of a literature review of research in an area of interest. Students will leave the course with the ability to make the linkages between theory, method, and substance explicit in their analyses of social issues.
