This program will serve as an introduction to oil painting, working directly from specimen in the collection of Evergreen's Center for Biodiversity Studies. Emphasis will be placed on developing technical skills through observational painting, while focusing on color theory. Paintings will be done from life through the collection's assortment of shells, insects and skeletons.This weekend intensive is aimed to provide students with hands-on learning opportunities they may have missed during the pandemic. It is designed for students who have a strong work ethic and self-discipline and who are willing to work long hours in the studio on campus in company with their fellow students, through 20 contact hours over a single weekend at the end of Week 10.

There are no pre-requisites for this course, though a background in drawing is encouraged.
