This course is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of human development. We'll look at its complexities through an interdisciplinary lens, exploring how biological, psychological, and social factors shape our developmental paths. We'll also engage a core tension in developmental theories as they're engaged in counseling and social work: these theories are indispensable in helping practice and they don't always map on to life as it's lived. Classic core psychological theories from Freud, Piaget, Vygotsky, Kohlberg, and Erikson will be explored through a biopsychosocial lens to examine how social, cultural, and community factors shape development.

Students enrolled in the program "Working Developmentally" should not also enroll in this course.
