Today's leaders encounter challenges requiring innovative thinking, behavior, and engagement. The current workforce demands inclusive environments that acknowledge and value everyone’s talent. Leaders must develop and support equitable goals, policies, and practices. Transforming one's leadership capability is essential for creating an inclusive environment that supports employees' wellbeing and organizational success. Inclusive leadership fosters a culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered, benefiting both individuals and the organization. We become inclusive leaders when we are ready and willing to engage in difficult conversation and embrace active listening as a cornerstone. Leadership development happens when people realize it’s as much about their own personal lives as it is about their organizational role. Leadership development is an outward and inward journey that must engage the heart as well as the head—it’s a call to grow personally and in our relationships. This program aims to help students understand inclusive leadership from a personal and organizational perspective. Throughout the quarter, the focus is on “Use of Self” as an inclusive leader, enhancing skills to influence an inclusive organizational culture and foster employee belonging, acceptance, development and engagement. Inclusive leadership principles, complexities, and challenges are highlighted, along with examining personal strengths and development needs for becoming an inclusive leader.
The program assumes a willingness to accept necessary changes in behavior, to practice, to apply skills and to evaluate skill development through assessment of practice.
