This course will provide an overview of grant writing and explore the practical applications of this highly marketable skill. The course aims to provide students with a strong foundation in writing and familiarize students with tools and resources available to assist in the writing process.
Students will learn how to research and apply for grants from a diverse array of funding sources, including federal, state, tribal, and private sources. They will analyze language trends in both the philanthropic and environmental sectors, create a compelling strategy to secure support, and adapt written narratives for a variety of audiences. Students will have the opportunity to engage in a peer review process and receive individualized feedback while strategizing their approach. The course centers around the completion of a portfolio including materials like a case statement, core narrative, sections of grant narratives for a variety of funders, and a final reflection presentation.
Online Class Format:This course is offered fully online. There will be no in-person attendance expectations and classes will be held remotely on zoom. Students can expect to engage with one another through breakout rooms, online discussion boards and other collaborative online methods.
Class Schedule: Wednesday nights, 6:00 pm-10:00 pm, PST.
Qualified undergraduates may be enrolled in an undergraduate CRN for this course with faculty signature approval.
