Civic engagement refers to the many ways that we, individually and collectively, work to make a difference in our communities and our world. The Civic Engagement Institute is designed to launch your experience as a co-learner and leader at Evergreen, as we develop knowledge, tools, and skills to enhance our capacities to promote meaningful social and political change as scholars, advocates, and organizers.

During our week together, we’ll build awareness of our own identities and intersections in the dynamics of creating change, play games, and dive deeply into creating community with each other, engage with elders—human and non-human, and connect with community partners and change-makers. Our off-campus activities will include workshops with local activists, historians, and storytellers, and an insider’s tour of the Capitol and policy change at the state level. On campus, we’ll explore opportunities for community-based action and service learning at Evergreen and in greater Olympia. Every body is welcome.
