Creative Writing: Unconventional Memoir will focus on contemporary memoirs that deviate from the conventional form and structure. Students will read, reflect, and seminar on selected works by authors breaking the traditional narrative memoir form. Many of the texts will be from Native American and/or Indigenous writers. This is a creative writing course created to be generative. All levels of writers are welcome. This course is exploratory/entry to intermediate level. In addition to weekly writing prompts and exercises, the culminating project will be an outline or mindmap of your specific story and the opening chapters or stand alone sections (12-24 workshopped and revised pages). This course meets on Tuesday afternoons 1pm - 4pm in person. There is a class fee that will be used to supply students with the course reader.
