Creative Writing: Eco-Narratives will explore how the natural environment (landscapes, flora and fauna) interact and weave throughout our personal narratives, whether writing memoir, personal essays, or poetics. Students will engage in a range of writing prompts to uncover or expand eco themes within their own narratives. By critically reading Maya Jewell Zeller's Raised by Ferns, excerpts from Melissa Febos' Writing the Body, Deborah Miranda's Bad Indians, Myriam Gurba's Poppy State, Sasha LaPointe's Red Paint, Aimee Nezhukumatathil's World of Wonders, and Thomas Ganon's Birding While Indian, students will write reading reflections focused on writing style, voice, and thematic elements presented in the works. Seminar will be a major component of each class. This is a reading and writing intensive course. All levels of writers welcome. We will meet on Thursday afternoons from 1pm until 4:30pm in person.

Students can sign up for 4 credits that includes attending all classes and completing academic course work, or sign up for the 8 credit option which includes the 4 credit requirements as well as an additional creative writing project, assigned readings, and course work to be completed asynchronously.
