The Business of Sports and Athletics program is an interdisciplinary 8-credit academic program designed for undergraduate students who are interested in understanding the complex systems that shape modern sports and athletics. The program examines sports not only as a form of competition and entertainment, but also as a powerful cultural, economic, and technological force in society. Students will explore how athletics influence and reflect social and cultural dynamics, how sports organizations operate as businesses, and how emerging technologies are transforming both athletic performance and the fan experience from a business perspective. The program will investigate the business and economics of sports, introducing students to the financial structures, revenue models, governance systems, and strategic decisions that drive sports organizations and leagues. In addition, students will examine sports, culture, and society, analyzing the role athletics play in shaping identity, community, politics, and social change.
To successfully participate in this program, students need a computer and internet access. This class will meet online synchronously for 8 hours per week.
