American Nations:Reading and Writing Across the Humanities is a reading and writing course that will introduce students to study, writing, and research for college, best practices for academic achievement and reading for comprehension, recall, seminar, aesthetics, and writing. This course will approach ways in which we have evolved, migrated, warred, created human cultures, made art & music, governed ourselves, and invented things as we study the proposed eleven regional cultures of North America proposed by Colin Woodard combined with the arts, especially the visual arts. This course will track human timelines and engage the story of human history as told through the humanities, focusing primarily on the colonial project as it has changed the fabric of North America. By reviewing the foundations of American Governance & Classical Liberalism, as well as the intertwined history of the Indigenous Americas, we will approach foundational concepts in the Arts and Humanities. All levels. 4 credits. Online Hybrid (has sync and async components). Required class meetings Mondays 6-9:30 via zoom.
