What if play, not discipline, is the key to unlocking your creative work?
In this 2-hour writing workshop, facilitators Jennifer Berney and Sarah Tavis will discuss an approach to writing called Joyful Practice that centers exploration, collaboration, and connection to the collective unconscious.
Participants show up with pen & paper (or preferred writing implements); facilitators offer a series of guided prompts designed to connect us to the thread of creativity that ties us.
Jennifer Berney and Sarah Tavis are writers and teachers with over 40 years of combined experience working with writers of various ages, backgrounds, and levels. Together, they write a weekly newsletter about healing and creative process, The Scrap Heap, and are working on a handmade, illustrated book: The Joyful Practice Handbook: analog play for humans in dark times.
Jenn’s book, The Other Mothers, a memoir of queer family-building, was a finalist for the Washington Book Award. Her essays have appeared in Longreads, Outside, Wired, Dirt, and many other places.
Sarah’s essays and poetry have appeared in several anthologies, literary journals, and chapbooks. Her novella A History of What Lies Beneath will be published by Cosmographia Books in 2027. She is a founding member of The 3rd Thing, an independent publisher of necessary alternatives.
