Syllabus/Classroom Agreement Statements

The Evergreen campus is eager to support our students, and part of supporting our students is helping them know their resources when they need assistance. Syllabi and Classroom Agreements are a great opportunity to educate every student about classroom and course expectations, as well as their rights and resources on campus. Because of that, you are encouraged to include a statement regarding Title IX and your role as a Responsible Employee into your class document and communicate with your students about your responsibility early in the quarter. Below is a sample statement; feel free to make it your own.

“The Evergreen State College is committed to providing a safe learning environment for all students that is free of all forms of discrimination and harassment, including sexual assault, domestic/relationship violence, sexual harassment, stalking, and retaliation. I am committed to your well-being and safety, and am open to discuss any concerns you may have.

Please know that I am a Responsible Employee, meaning that I am legally obligated to share information with the College’s Title IX Coordinator in certain situations that help ensure a student’s safety and care is being addressed. Although I have to notify the Title IX Coordinator, it will be up to you to control how your case is handled, including whether to pursue a formal complaint or legal action or not. The goal is to make sure you are aware of a range of options available to you and have access to the resources you need.
