Merit Award

Amount: Equal to undergraduate resident tuition up to 18 credits; 5 awarded; nonrenewable

Important Information: this is a tuition award. Tuition Awards listed are a waiver of a student’s tuition. A recipient of a tuition award cannot receive funding in excess of the cost of full-time undergraduate tuition. In addition, a recipient of a tuition award cannot use the funding for any of the study abroad consortium agreements.

Offered to new students attending full time who will graduate from high school in 2017 and who can provide evidence of being a National Merit Semi-Finalist Scholar.


  • Letter of application addressing your preparation for college work. This should include your high school curricular and extracurricular achievements and activities. Your statement should show evidence of your ability to connect your high school experience to your future college experience.
  • Two letters of recommendation written within the past year from individuals, other than relatives, who are familiar with your achievements.
  • Transcripts from high school and each college, if attending college prior to high school graduation (see How to Apply #3A and B). These are in addition to transcripts submitted for admission.
  • Letter from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) notifying you that you are a National Merit Semi-Finalist Scholar.
