Time: 1:00 to 3:00 pm
Location: Departs from the Library Lobby
Session Description:
Take a tour of The Organic Farm! Talk about your experience in agriculture and share your memories of The Organic Farm. This will be a great chance to see what has changed at the farm, and what has stayed the same. We will also be doing a cider press and tasting!
Rachel Bietz '14, Administrative Assistant, Organic Farm: Rachel is currently finishing her final year at Evergreen, pursuing a dual BA/BS degree in The Sociology of Food Systems and Plant Protection. Along with working at the Organic Farm, she is doing an academic internship with the Thurston County WSU Agricultural Extension program, as well as conducting her own research on ground beetles. After she graduates from Evergreen, Rachel plans to pursue a Master's degree in Plant Protection or Agroecology, followed by a PhD in Entomology. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys spinning yarn and knitting socks, playing board games and cooking delicious meals!
Stephen Bramwell, Member of the Faculty: Stephen teaches in the Practice of Sustainable Agriculture program at the Evergreen Organic Farm. He likes how farming in a community allows people to learn about many aspects of themselves, and also about a wide range of academic disciplines and practical skills.
Melissa Barker '00, Organic Farm Instructional Technician: Melissa Barker graduated from Evergreen in 2000. She worked on local small-scale vegetable and livestock farms in the Olympia area and was caretaker for Oyster Bay Farm from 2000 through 2004. She began managing the Organic Farm at Evergreen in 2004. Melissa and her partner, Nate Lewis, own and operate an organic diversified livestock farm, Lincoln Creek Ranch in the Chehalis River valley.
