2019-20 Voluntary Separation & Contract Reduction Incentives

Between November 15, 2019 and March 27, 2020, the College is offering separation and voluntary reduction incentives.  Each incentive is available to up to ten faculty on regular continuing contract during the 19-20 academic year who meet the eligibility requirements and have not already accepted a retirement or separation incentive.  Full terms of the incentives are specified in the Memorandum of Understanding: 2019-2020 Faculty Voluntary Separation and Contract Reduction Incentives and in the applications that are linked below. 

 

Interested eligible faculty are advised to consult an attorney before applying and, if applicable, should read the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act of 1990 Disclosure Notice, available in the Provost’s office.  The three incentives are summarized below:

 

  • Incentive One: The first incentive is a continuation of the separation incentive offered last year, but the limitations on participation have been eliminated so that all regular continuing faculty members will be eligible to participate.  Full-time regular continuing faculty who commit to end their College employment by June 15, 2020, will receive a one-time payment of $50,000 (plus an additional $25,000 for each quarter of awarded sabbatical that has not been taken as of the date of separation).  The amounts will be prorated proportionally for part-time regular faculty members with continuing contracts.
  • Incentive Two: The second incentive is new.  It provides a one-time payment of $25,000 to full-time regular continuing faculty members who voluntarily reduce their position to half-time.  Faculty who accept the incentive will be eligible to apply for open adjunct positions in addition to their half-time regular contract, but they will not be eligible to apply for a new regular full-time faculty position for at least five years.
  • Incentive Three: The third incentive is also new.  It provides a one-time payment of $15,000 to full-time regular continuing faculty members who voluntarily reduce their position to half-time for a minimum of three full years.  Faculty who accept the incentive will be eligible to return to full-time, continuing status following at least three years of half-time status by providing a full year’s notice to the College. 

 

Applications will be accepted in the Provost’s Office between Friday, November 15, 2019 and Friday, February 1, 2020 during business hours, in the order that they are received.  Applications received prior to November 15, 2019 will be marked received at 8:00 a.m. on November 15.
