Evergreen Plans Virtual Graduation

The Evergreen State College will be hosting a virtual commencement ceremony for the class of 2020 on Friday, June 12 at 1:00 p.m., the college announced today.
“After conversations with representatives from the senior class, we have decided to go ahead with a video event to celebrate the accomplishments and success of our grads,” said Evergreen President George Bridges. “Although we’re disappointed not to be together in person, our goal now is to build a unique Evergreen celebration that brings our community together to honor our students.”
While details for the June 12 virtual ceremony are being worked out, the plan is to invite commencement speakers, honorees and musicians to broadcast their remarks and performances from the college’s renowned Center for Creative and Applied Media. Graduates will receive mortar boards, printed programs and other regalia by mail, and will be invited to share photos and join watch groups to celebrate with fellow grads.
For those 2020 graduates who still want the full flavor of a joyous open-air commencement, Evergreen style, they will be invited to walk with the graduating class of 2021 in June next year.
“We’re a community that digs deep, just like our iconic Pacific Northwest mascot, the geoduck,” said Bridges. “We will create a special celebration this year to confer degrees and celebrate student success, welcoming a new group of Greener grads en route to their future."
