The Evergreen State College Noted Among U.S. News & World Report’s 2012 Edition of ‘America’s Best Colleges’
Evergreen Recognized for Learning Communities Approach

Evergreen was recently categorized among the best universities in the western region by US News and World Report. The western region includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
Evergreen’s distinctive “learning communities” approach was highlighted by a peer assessment survey conducted by US News. Under the category “learning communities,” in the article “A focus on student success” Evergreen was listed among only 18 nationwide. Learning communities are a way of structuring curriculum to link together coursework so students find greater coherence in what they are learning and achieve more interactions with faculty and peers. In this same article, Evergreen was noted for a strong showing in providing first year orientation to college.
The ‘Best Colleges’ recognition is the latest in a series of recognitions for Evergreen, including recent accolades in the Fiske Guide, Sierra Magazine, and Princeton Review. Additionally, Evergreen was recently ranked among the top graduate schools for public affairs by US News & World Report.
