What to Bring List For Academic Year 2021-22

A list of essentials to bring with you when you move into your new home at Evergreen.

Being prepared

Be prepared for emergencies and COVID-19

  • Assemble an emergency supply kit that includes cash, a first aid kit, and a flashlight 
  • Prepare a two weeks' worth of non-perishable food and medicine in the case you are quarantined in your apartment 
  • Face masks 
  • A thermometer  

Limit what you bring to make it easier to move in and to another apartment if needed for quarantine.  

Please only bring items that you can fit into your approximately 125 square foot furnished bedroom.  Coordinate with your roommates about items such as dishes and decorations that you should bring for your common kitchen and living room.  

Bring only the essentials

  • Rain gear and umbrella
  • Rain boots
  • Bedding including extra-long twin-size sheets (regular twin size fits too), mattress pad, blankets, and pillows
  • Towels
  • Hangers
  • Personal hygiene products and prescription medicine
  • Soap and toilet paper
  • Health insurance information and knowledge of how to access insurance coverage
  • Clothing and personal items (seasonal items and then rotate when possible) 
  • Small trash can for your individual room
  • Clothes hamper or basket and laundry detergent
  • Re-useable water bottle and/or coffee mug
  • Power strip and device chargers
  • Desk lamp
  • Supplies for academic work (computer, printer, writing supplies, etc.)

Things to bring after talking with your roommates

  • Basic cooking supplies such as:
    • pots
    • pans
    • dishes
    • utensils
    • coffee, tea, or hot water pot 
    • rice cooker or steamer
  • Green cleaning supplies
    • Bulk cleaning supplies are available at our local co-op
    • Look for phosphate-free, biodegradable products
  • Dish soap and dishtowels
  • Mop and vacuum
  • Pictures and posters with painters tape to hang on the wall  

All kitchens are equipped with an electric stove, microwave, refrigerator, sink and cupboard space. Cooking supplies and utensils, and dishwashers are not provided. All residents will have an Apartment Agreement facilitated by their RA to discuss cleaning responsibilities, eating habits, grocery shopping, etc.

Do not bring

  • More items than fit in one vehicle
  • More items than you are prepared to carry or transport on a cart up to 200 yards
  • Halogen lamps, hot plates, gas grills, camp stoves, or toaster ovens
  • Pets other than fish
  • Candles or incense

Helpful services

Housing offers a variety of services and resources to residents. Plus, you’ll find all the basics:

  • Wireless Internet throughout housing
  • Covered bicycle parking
  • In the Housing Community Center you will find:
    • A mailroom open 5 days a week. Personal mailboxes are accessible any time the HCC is open
    • A laundry room
    • The POD Market, a convenience store

Home away from home

  • You can find most of what you need right on Evergreen’s campus, within walking distance.
