Community Gardens
In the fall of 2010, the RAD Community Gardens program was created. It was a collaboration between RAD, the Community Gardens student activities group and an independent student project.
During the summer of 2010, 7 raised beds and 1 ADA accessible raised bed were constructed near H-building using cedar left over from a project with the wood shop. Silver Springs Organics donated 10 yards of certified organic compost, and the area surrounding the beds was sheet mulched with woodchips donated by the Evergreen Organic Farm. The garden plots near N-building were renovated in the summer of 2012.
Community Garden Tool Shed
Near the N-building community gardens, RAD Services has erected a 7’ X 4’ X 8’ tool shed to be utilized by the community gardeners. The shed is made of salvaged and scrap wood from prior projects, costing almost nothing in cost of construction.
Residents can reserve one of the twelve garden plots to grow their own fresh produce. If you're interested, please email the RAD Sustainability Coordinator at radsustainability@evergreen.edu.
