Groups Offered via Student Wellness Services Winter 2018

Students interested in attending groups can get signed up in Student Wellness Services (Sem 1 2150) via Drop In. Groups typically start after Week 3 of each quarter.

DBT Skills Group Tuesdays 11-12:30pm

This skill building group will aid participants in navigating and managing emotional, academic, social, relational, and environmental stress. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) focuses on the areas of mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance which enhances ones ability to change unwanted behaviors, emotions, thinking patterns, and events. Through this group, participants will build a toolkit of skills and resources to pull from whenever they have difficult life circumstances.

Mindful Self Compassion Tuesdays 3:30-5:00pm

This groups is designed to cultivate psychological stability and flexibility, learning methods to develop a healthier perspective and relationship with self and with our clinical issues through awareness, acceptance, open-mindedness, kindness, non-judgment, and resilience.

Can You Relate Wednesdays 4-5:30pm

Can You Relate is a group to help you examine and build healthier relationships with friends, partners, parents, co-workers, and peers. Group members will support each other in learning and exploring good communication skills, and establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries - all while honoring your individual, unique you!

LGBTQ Relationship Skills Group Thursdays 12-1:30pm

This skill building group loos at understanding healthy and unhealthy relationships by building communication and conflict resolution abilities for students who identify in the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. This group will also address intimate partner violence and bystander skills. Come talk about relationships and how we can better equip ourselves and our communities to care for one another and thrive.

Trauma Support Group Thursdays 4-5:30pm 

Traumatic experiences are often logged in our psyches not with words, but with our other four senses. This group looks to both process trauma, as well as build a toolkit for coping with PTSD by utilizing are and narrative practice. Through externalizing trauma and helping our brain understand that it is not happening in this moment, we have an ability to form a different relationship to the experiences, often lessening the emotional content.

Therapeutic Wilderness Group Fridays 11-1pm 

Studies show that connection to our natural environment can reduce anxiety, improve mood, restore attention, and increase resilience. This group will work in relationship with our natural surroundings to help us build skills to cope with stress, anxiety, and depression. Activities will include forest walks, activities to learn mindfulness, and coping skills and group processing time all while immersed in the beauty of the Evergreen woods.

7 Challenges Time Tuesdays 1-2 in RAD & Thursdays 6-7 in SWS

Provides a framework to help you think through decisions about life and use of alcohol and other drugs
