Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve. The motto of Evergreen Tacoma has guided countless number of students who sought to grow so they could serve their community. But without Evergreen Tacoma, there is no motto, and the dedication to service that comes with it.

Dr. Maxine Mimms is the visionary behind Evergreen Tacoma. At a time when the higher education options in Tacoma were either private school or community college, Dr. Mimms began teaching students out of her home. That beginning around a kitchen table would grow to become the Evergreen Tacoma campus, the first public university in Tacoma. Situated in the Hilltop neighborhood, Dr. Mimms vision was to make education accessible to adults who thought that college wasn’t for them.

Today, Dr. Mimms legacy lives on in her students and their service to our communities. Dr. Mimms has been honored as the subject of a dissertation, interviews, awards, and has even had the Lyceum Hall renamed in her and a colleague's honor.

We can do more.

Join us to institutionalize Dr. Mimms’ dedication to making education possible, by creating an endowed scholarship in her name at The Evergreen State College Foundation. Recipients will not only receive funding to start, continue, or finish their education, they will know that they have been chosen, chosen to carry Dr. Mimms’ name because they are worthy.

We invite you to join us to endow a scholarship to honor Dr. Mimms work.
