The major personality theorists will be presented sequentially within their cultural and historical contexts. This will provide the students with a broader understanding of the evolution of ideas concerning human nature. Exploration of theories will be limited to those that apply specifically to the practice of counseling. Attention will be paid to the interaction of the individual with the social milieu, the cultural biases within theory, and the effect of personal history on theoretical claims. This course is a core course, and is required for the pursuit of graduate studies in psychology.

Required technology to be successful:  computer or equivalent, internet connection, access to Canvas and Zoom. Synchronous (live on Canvas/zoom).  Our approach will emphasize participation in synchronous sessions; however, if students find themselves unable to participate due to technology, caregiving obligations, economic disruption, health risk, or illness, they can work with the faculty to pursue alternate options to earn program credit.
